Saturday night at his home in Yamazato, Okinawa City, Petty Officer 3rd Class Ricardo Alfre Monsalvogarza, 27, of U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa was heard arguing with his wife, which led to him being arrested after being accused of punching the 23-year-old. Monsalvogarza was taken into custody at 2 a.m.
Monsalvogarza has admitted to the assault charge, Okinawa Police deputy chief Hirotoshi Iha said.
Another serviceman was also arrested this past week and charged with assault.
Lance Cpl. Jose Alejandro Araica, 20, of Camp Courtney, was intoxicated at a bar when he was arrested at about 6 a.m. Wednesday. Araica was accused of choking a 25-year-old Japanese man at the bar in Matsuyama, Naha, said Naha Police deputy chief Shigenari Kinjo.
Araica has stated he doesn’t remember the incident, Kinjo said, naming his intoxication as the reason.
An assault charge has been referred to the Naha District Public Prosecutors Office.
